About Herzl Institute

The Herzl Institute for Research and the Study of Zionism and history operates at the University of Haifa since 1987. The Institute was headed by Prof. Yoav Gelber until 2010, and is now headed by Prof. Arieh Kochavi.

The Herzl institute seeks to initiate and lead study projects dedicated to the State of Israel and its standing in the international arena. The research fellows working within the institute initiate and manage research projects dealing with various subjects, including: Liberal democracies facing asymmetric conflicts; the Ultra-Orthodox population in Israel; Israel's international and global position and historical issues such as the land of Israel during the British mandate.

The Herzl Institute cooperates with several research institutes and with researchers in Israel and around the globe, among them scholars, military and security forces personnel, government officials and agencies and more.
